  • Mentoring Entrepreneurs

Why Entrepreneurs Need Mentors A great idea doesn’t make you an entrepreneur. Execution does. Mentors bridge the gap between inspiration and real success. Here’s why they matter: ✅ They share hard-earned experience you can’t find in books. ✅ They keep you accountable when motivation dips. ✅ They help you avoid costly mistakes. ✅ They open doors to networks and opportunities you’d never reach alone. The truth? The best entrepreneurs aren’t self-made. They’re mentor-made. Who’s guiding you on your journey?

  • Thinking of Starting a Business?

Vital Advice for New Business Start-Ups Starting a business is exciting—but it takes more than passion to succeed. Here’s what every new entrepreneur should focus on: ✅ Validate your idea – make sure people actually need it. ✅ Have a plan – a roadmap keeps you on track. ✅ Know your numbers – cash flow makes or breaks you. ✅ Build your network – success is rarely a solo journey. ✅ Stay flexible – adapt fast, or get left behind. ✅ Seek guidance – a mentor shortens the learning curve. The difference between start-ups that thrive and those that fail is simple: preparation. Don’t just start a business—start it right.

  • A True Marketing Guru

The Truth About Marketing Marketing is not about selling. It’s about connecting. Too many businesses make noise. The smart ones build trust, tell stories, and position themselves so customers want to choose them. Here’s the guru’s take: ✅ Understand people – listen first, speak second. ✅ Position with power – own a space in the customer’s mind. ✅ Be consistent – every message builds (or breaks) your brand. ✅ Tell stories, not features – people buy feelings, not products. ✅ Mix data with creativity – results come from insight + imagination. Marketing isn’t a cost—it’s the engine of growth. Ignore it, and you’ll be chasing customers forever. Great businesses aren’t built on products—they’re built on powerful marketing.

  • The Power Of Training

Why the Trained Win (and the Untrained Lose) In business, success isn’t about luck. It’s about preparation. Training gives you the edge: ✅ Skills become instinct under pressure ✅ Confidence grows from competence ✅ Preparation beats chance every time ✅ Continuous learning keeps you ahead ✅ The untrained? They miss out, fall behind, and lose opportunities The world’s top performers all share one truth: they never stop training. Winners are trained. Losers are not. The choice is yours.

Education

Growing up in a family of twelve meant work came before study, so I built my education the long way - through real-life experience.

I learned directly from successful business leaders, gained training in the workplace, and turned mistakes into valuable lessons.

What I lacked in formal qualifications, I made up for with resilience, determination, and self-belief. Hard work became my teacher, and perseverance became my degree.

1980

Sales & Marketing Management

Lessons learnt at the school of hard knocks

Social

True friends have a history with you; they have earned your trust, proven loyalty and would do everything to protect you. Everyone else is an associate/someone you know well on a friendly basis, so choose carefully which category they fall into.

History

Coming from a large, poor working-class family, we all had to share available clothing. Therefore, I quickly learned, the first up was the best dressed. This option quickly turned my life around so that I could buy the best clothing and worry no more.

Health

Whilst you're alive, spend as little time in bed as you need. You can make up all the lost time lying down when you die. Keeping fit and avoiding addictive habits will keep you living longer.

Paying money to a drug supplier allows them to spend more time in their bed. As with the Bookmakers, Tobacco sellers and the Publicans, you're building up their lifestyle at your expense.

Economics

People who feel the world owes them something have to learn the world owes them nothing. The world provides them with life. That should be enough. The only thing that owes you something is you and you alone.

THE ONLY THING STOPPING YOU FROM ACHIEVING SUCCESS IS YOU. IT’S ALL ABOUT THE EFFORT, THE MOTIVATION YOU PUT IN.

Some people feel that they are not lucky in business or life, but it's a strange phenomenon; the harder I work, the more I put into life, the more lucker I become.

If you don’t have a plan the you will plan to fail. So build a plan of how you get there and keep to the plan. Adjust the plan when required. This is the sole reason all businesses have a Business Plan.

1990

SME Business & Franchising Development

Helping start-ups and SME's by devising substantial growth plans

1986

Sales Representative @ Gestetner Plc

Sales Executive

This role marked my entry into the sales industry, where I sold reprographic equipment to B2B, B2C, retail, and start-up organisations.

It was here that I laid the foundations of my career in business development, quickly learning how to build relationships, understand client needs, and close deals in competitive markets. Within just a few months, I exceeded my sales targets by more than 400%, becoming the company’s top sales achiever in the UK.

This early success established my reputation and gave me the confidence to pursue larger, more complex opportunities in the years that followed.

1989

Regional Sales Manager @ Plessey Plc

Plessey Telecomunications

In this role, I worked with Lexicon Holdings Ltd to represent and sell the Plessey range of telecoms equipment. I was responsible for guiding and training their sales staff to engage Blue-Chip companies, SMEs, and the retail market.

The equipment represented a high-end purchase, and I consistently achieved my sales targets, earning both promotion and financial rewards for my performance.

1993

Business Development @ BT Plc

BT PLC Retail

I was employed by BT as part of its newly created Retail Division within the BT Group. My role was to support the Business Development Team in launching and growing BT’s retail outlets — a formidable challenge, as this was BT’s first venture into the retail marketplace.

During this time, I took one BT product line to more than 500% of its sales target and consistently exceeded sales goals across most of the product range.

1994

Consultant @ Sales and Marketing Consultancy

As a freelance consultant, I travelled extensively, providing consultancy to a wide range of organisations. My work involved introducing new products to the market and supporting product patentability. One overseas project, valued in the millions of dollars, focused on product sourcing and services — a strong endorsement of my ability to secure and deliver high-value contracts.

2000

Sales Trainer and Consultant @ Consultant in Franchising

Franchise Consultant and Trainer

I have had the privilege of working with both leading franchise organisations and start-ups new to franchising. My role focused on driving growth by streamlining operations, expanding franchise networks, and delivering training in sales and marketing. Clients included TaxAssist Direct, now one of the foremost names in the franchise sector, Pronto Print and Castles Estates Property Management, a leader in their field. I have also supported organisations such as ATF Tyres, Trivial Time Pursuits, and WheelBrite.

2015

Director of Business Development @ BSO British Sales Organisation

Since October 2015, I have served as the Director of Business Development for the British Sales Organisation, then developed the BSO-Data Group, offering my vast experience and support to Entrepreneurs, SME, and start-up Enterprises. Having extensive experience in the B2B, B2C, Retail and Franchising. My experience in Administration, Finance, Sales, Marketing, Website, and SEO. Business planning, Legal obligations, Accounts and How to Grow a Successful Business have been gained over 40 years working for many blue-chip organisations.

The Full Story

Coming from a large working-class family, the household's financial needs always took precedence. Employment, rather than formal education, was the primary focus. I had to take the long route to success - learning from experience, mentors, and my own mistakes along the way.

Working alongside successful business leaders, I gained practical experience in sales, management, and business development.

Each role was an opportunity to learn, grow, and improve my skills. What I lacked in formal qualifications,

I made up for it with determination and resilience. I worked harder than most, dedicated to mastering my craft, and never let setbacks define me.

Over time, this not only built knowledge but also the confidence to support others in their success.

"I may not have studied in lecture halls, but life taught me more than any classroom ever could.”
